Bullshit

So, I thought I'd start a thread where we can post general bullshitting type stuff, random rules questions, wild suppositions and the like

In the works to be up on this site (hopefully) before we play on 9/21 is a list of the Eastern Monarchies and a brief description of each. I will also be emailing out some info on Tuesday or Wednesday that Dean Augustan gives you on his recently deceased but still surprisingly talkative student, and on what he knows of the quaint little burg called Driftwood-on-the-Sea.

It wasn't lies, it was just bullshit.

Yeah, I don't know what you guys are talking about ... I like this place. That dream sorta made a lot of sense.

(Maybe there was a will save involved or something. "You know guys, this whole 'undead demon goddess thing' is not so bad. I think she really has our best interests at heart!")

The lamentation of not taking that Carapace armor continues to this day.

I know, I know ... the stars really have to line up ... i need to get a chance (e.g. the kids in bed) before i am above a certain level of drunkenness... just hasn't happened yet. Maybe today!

Re: Cooks Journal

As to retrieving the info from Calamestes, Mark had the excellent suggestion of sending Kek alone that night, as his 120 foot darkvision and +18 Stealth is fair assurance that he can avoid unwanted attention and trouble.

Please, 150'.
That's a good idea.

Star fleet Battles

Hey Jerry. I don't know of your interest level but Armidillo Press puts out star fleet battles now. They also have an online tournamnet/play online service. Check it out and let me know if you are interested in playing either face to face on occasion or via online.

cook, 12/31/13 18:05
Re: Star fleet Battles

That is interesting...
I am willing to try either. I think that we're more likely to do the electronic one, but, i see that it costs money. And I am not sure how well it would work...I remember these things taking hours or days even in person, so a play-by-post thing would take months. But it looks like it's not just play-by-post, so, I don't know.
I see they say something about trying it out in "demo mode" for free...i will see if i can figure out how to do that.

Edit: Ok, the guy says that "demo mode" on the online one means that you can play a full game, but your choice of ships is limited (the federation tournament CA or the klingon tournament D7). So, I think we should try that out just to see what the online thing is like. What do you think?

post- Session 10

Couple of questions:
1) Can I make some kind of check to guess what kind of a name "Deca" is? i.e., what language or nationality or species or era it might be from? (Linguistics +9, Geography +11, Local +8, Nobility +8, History +6)
2) What do you think (I guess I'd ask Smith?) about the possibility of hacking off a (or several) hunk of driftwood and carrying it around with us to try to dampen divinations? Now that we have at least one wizard pissed off at us ...

On the subject of skill checks....

I would appreciate another check on the following, "The chamber is open on all sides, looking out from some height at the surrounding landscape - sea to the north, plains to the south, forests to the east, mountains to the west." I would be happy to assist on said check.

I discussed the functionality of Driftwood, and it seems that divinations must redirect around the wood thus decreasing their effective range. Smith noticed the effect when using the divination orb.

I was thinking that I could try the check when we are back at Una's, and have access to all of the maps and shit that we got from the crucible. But it's probably going to be a while, so maybe it's good to try it off-the-top-of-the-head now and then try that later (level 7?) if this one fails.

After conferring with Ed, It would be possible to carry a hunk of driftwood and it would block divination. Apparently it has a area of effect. I have no idea of the size required, and it would block both ways for me, so I would be unable to scry using the orb.

Re: post- Session 10

OK. Yeah, I could see downsides ... i don't know if it's a good idea or not, but, seemed worth considering.

Time

If no one objects I would like some time to craft and make certain checks before we set off to the easten monarchies. I would like at least 1 week but 10 days to 2 weeks is preferable.

I have the impression that the place is sort of on the brink of war. I had that impression a few sessions ago, and delayed a bit ... I think that such things probably move more slowly in a world of wind powered ships and armies marching on foot, etc; it's hard to imagine that a week or two would make a difference ... but I really don't know how much time we have. I've also sort of lost track of how much game time has elapsed since I heard about this stuff -- i think it might be a few weeks, though.

I plan on crafting a headband on int (+2) for Kek, with perception as the skill to help him out. If you have the cash I could craft something for you as well. With the crafting for me and kek it will be 11 days to accomplish everything.

Ah, that's a good idea. I think I don't want to add additional delay, but will hoard some cash for next opportunity.

Ed, can I fit a trip to Una's and back in during the downtime? I can access the maps we left with her (from the Crucible, i think?) and make that geography check for Smith. And maybe I could ask Una to take a crack at opening up the magically sealed book. (Any other ideas?)

Trip to Una's

You can certainly try to make it to Una's and back; Cook figures that on average the round trip should take 9 days (counting a day spent at Una's.)

Eastern Monarchies/Southwatch

I made a small clarification regarding Count Baer, namely where he usually rules his own County from (Rosewall) and where he currently rules his own and his regency county from (Thistlebrook).

Good idea. instead of casting mage armor. I will drink a potion of mage armor. But I will cast protection from arrows and spectral hand before the zip line.

I can take a couple of potions and use my cloak ahead of time, maybe, but don't have too much going on in the buffs department.
I am trying to strategerize ... I think we really don't want to get hit.
Maybe you guys could take him out at range? But it is going to be close quarters indoors. Do you guys have anything that attacks a will save? I am not really coming up with anything better than the "let's do Deeper Darkness, and maybe Darkvision, and hope he doesn't have blind-fight".

Rob, can you play on 12.13.14? Or is there some other event of numerological significance which you must attend?

Game on!

Doug is good for the 13th, so we're all set for the Raid on Placid Mirror Monastery (barring more lake effect chicanery, of course.)

cook, 11/21/14 18:58
Re: Game on!

Did Smith get any kind of sense motive vibe off of Sir Duncan the Wonder Horse (or Tonto)? I guess that those guys seem relatively reliable in this context (Devil's Fools guy, etc), but it would be awkward to get in there and then have him reveal himself as a high level infernal cleric or something like that.
PS: I think on the death world of Fenris they typically have only about 4-5 feet of snow.
PPS: The hammer of the gods will drive your ships to new lands...

Cook at the Temple

Sorry, Jerry, but I just removed your thread/post. I typed up my post last night without seeing yours, and just didn't have the heart to edit it this morning to reflect your requests. In the end, you guys got the tree's story. Although, as a side note, healing doesn't seem to work on the tree.

That's fine. All I was really trying to do was attempt to keep up some momentum, which you accomplished better than I would have anyway.
