This will be an organic sci-fi/fantasy world, so there are no wrong answers. Some may be to be revised and tweaked as we communally generate the world. My base idea is that there will be an emperor and various houses underneath him. They could be planets or solar systems or whatever. These houses would each be a unique race.

There will be guilds. (Assassins, thieves, mercenaries, ect)

Magic or psionic as to be decided as a group.

-Where did you meet/ Why are they your ally? Met professionally; he always brings choice merchandise to pawn, and they have developed a friendship over the years.

Name one enemy? Imperial commander
-Where did you meet/Why are they your enemy? Commander arrested him 10 years ago as part of a skooma ring, was upset when he ended up walking free - now has a personal vendetta to see him put behind bars forever.

What actor would play your character? Iain Glen.

You have initial choice between Beserk and Resist Magic. Both can be purchased at the cost of 1 refresh.

space pirate. i don't know if he was the captain. engineering skills, maybe some piloting. probably hand to hand combat with secondary firearms.
Lets go with him being a pirate captain. He worked his way up to having his own ship, perhaps starting as an engineer, then a pilot, then a captain?

Why are you in prison?
piracy... i think he was captured after being set up or sold out by Koloth somehow.
I like the idea of Koloth selling him out to the empire

he has sometimes done work on the sly for some legitimate navy (attacking rival shipping in a plausibly deniable way or something), and has some contacts with a ship captain there.
He has guys from his old ship.
Perhaps you have(had) a letter of marquee at some point and have a contact with a specific nation or the empire.

Rival space pirate. i picture him like Koloth from star trek. they had a long rivalry of one-upping one another in a sort of limited way, that turned more sour recently.

So...
Looking at your answers, perhaps you and Koloth were exceptional pirate captains, and were both in the running to get a letter of Maquee for the Empire (or other nation). You completed some task and were about to be declared the winner but Koloth sabotages you and instead you are imprisoned, and he is awarded the letter.
